Plaid is fun and definitely not for the faint at heart! It pairs well with almost any solid colored bottom and looks great on both men and women. Every closet needs at least one plaid shirt. For women and men, there are many cuts that carry the same sexiness as a white button down shirt (another closet must have). The simplest match up is with a pair of jeans or solid colored bottom (leggings, skirt, slacks), however for the more daring - plaid can be carefully paired with other prints for a little mix and match and comes out great at the end.

Plaid comes in almost every accessory - hats, scarves, gloves, belts, headbands, bracelet, handbag, etc. Plaid packs a punch and if you aren't ready for a piece of plaid clothing, definitely have a plaid accessory for that moment you want to flair it up! For your spring 2012 wardrobe - find a pair of plaid (or printed) shoes!

Where Hair is Happening

I finally had an opportunity to experience the new Sintia's Dominican Hair Salon in PG county, MD. Its located near FedEx field, the last shop on a row in a sort of run down shopping center (rather I'd say up-and-coming shopping center). I hadn't visited since it had undergone renovations.

I must say - this place is new and improved. It was nice to see some of the familiar faces in a much brighter, welcoming and customer friendly establishment. Years ago I struggled finding a good Dominican spot here in the DC metro area that was good enough - compared to my spots in Brooklyn. I must say that I had been quite pleased with the spots I found - Claudia's in downtown Silver Spring and Giovanni's in Adams Morgan. Yes - I like options. I too frequent my actual hair stylist - and she is great for cuts, color and any major new-dos, however, I love my Dominican hair stylist for the every week runs and maintenance. So - in my quest to find another spot in Largo area, I bumped into Sintia's. Reading on the salons history (www.hairhappenshere.com), I grew more appreciative of the salon and what is strives to represent. Admittedly, the salon didn't dazzle me - but most Dominican salons don't pride themselves on what the salon looks like - just that the customer's hair is right. And that was my judge as well - of course, no one buys the product if the packaging aint right ... yes?

So - before this overhaul, I didn't feel any sort of urge to frequent Sintias, regardless of the story and how well the stylists did hair. Now that I've returned, I am happy to say that it has moved up on my list and may become my most frequented Dominican hair salon. Its upscale, chic, organized and while waiting is not an option - the wait is bearable.

Now - hair does happen here. The products are medium grade (meaning not top of the shelf and surely not bottom of the barrel - shampoos and conditioners will actually clean and condition you hair and are not just good smelling water. Stylists know how to do hair - and want you to be satisfied. The ticket system keeps them organized and the free Wi-Fi is great for multi-tasking. There is plenty of free parking and the prices are reasonable for the DMV (I am only remaining tolerant of how much more a wash and set is here compared to back home - it double the expense - however, I understand the demographic here compared to back home so I can tolerate it). You can get a come back card and your 10th wash/set is free. The hours accommodate the working mother - open Tuesday - Friday 9am - 9:30, Saturday/Sunday 7-6.

Today's inspiration - UGG

Recently, one of my clients asked me what made me start my own business. And while I am never at lost for words - I stumbled because there were too many words trying to come out of my mouth at the same time. As I paced my thoughts to my ability to speak (yes I do speak fast - but not that fast), I concluded my 2 minute response to it came naturally - it is truly my passion to see how good people feel when they've expressed themselves through dress. She ended - you should be a blogger...

Hmmmm.. well, while I took that opportunity to market my blog - I silently relented that I am not doing all that I can to feed my passion. Its funny how things come to you (I know - a cliche -but all so true). I started this blog as a compliment to my styling company, but didn't think that maybe my passion is in writing... I enjoy creativity in all forms - and the art of writing is definitely fun and exciting to me. Just never thought of myself as a writer. Hmmm... but maybe I already am.

This blog is expression through dress... in written form. :-) For my fellow advent readers who also have a FLAIR for dress, I commit to you (and myself) to put more into this written art form. Just as style continuously transforms and inspires ... Stay tuned....

Enjoying the Dog Days of Summer! Hope you're staying cool and flairicous!

With over 90 degrees plaguing the East Coast, we ladies (and a few gents) are flippin' round town with low heeled toe thongs in all sorts of color and styles. Long gone are the days that the flip flop is restricted to just the beach or pool. Flip Flops have officially become a sandal. They have flowers, appliques, different materials from patent leather to jelly-style. Designers like Coach and Juicy are making a version of the flip flop, ranging in prices from 2 for $10 to over $100. They have not only replaced the on-my-way-to-the-office-sneaker for the summer, they are a must have to everyone's summer selection.

Its amazing all the sorts of styles and colors I see as I sit at Pret-a-Manger people-watching downtown DC.
Flip Flops are perfectly paired with this summer's maxi dress or layered tank tops with Capri's for a cool summer night on the town. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY FLIPPIES! They pack perfectly for your quick weekend getaway or a day trip to the beach.

Be ware ladies - once you arrive at the office, they may not be the most appropriate - you are sure to be heard flippin' round the office. Be sure to know your office summer dress code before venturing into flippies in the office. And when they start to mold to the shape of your feet or style of walking, they need to be replaced (not a good look when the flip flop no longer looks like a flip flop and more like a bedroom slipper). And while they are fun and easy - comfort varies. Some come with a cushier bottom so that you do not end up with toe soars after a long day of flippin' round. Additionally, the ones with the toe thong can create some soreness between the big and second toes - sometimes inevitable - just know Dr. Scholl's has a cure for that too.

While they vary in quality - you'd want to create a variety of uses for each of your flippies. I'd recommend having multiple pairs for different occasions - e.g. taking out the trash, running household errands, going to a BBQ, date night, commuting to work/kids summer camp activities, girls night.... and the list goes on and on. And of course, the taking out the trash flippie wouldn't be the same girls night flippie...

When was the last time you looked in the mirror undressed and noticed how beautiful you are? Typically, we look in the mirror and notice all that is wrong with our bodies – we self-criticize relentlessly and then wonder how people treat us in a less than respectful way. How can anyone treat you in a respectful way when you put yourself down? When we look in a mirror – we see ourselves with emotion compared to when we look at a photograph of ourselves, we see the physical features.

I am not suggesting that you become a cocky arrogant person that thinks they are better than anyone else. Nor am I suggesting that you become superficial. That is not what happens when you notice your beauty. In fact, noticing your beauty humbles you in a way that not only boosts confidence and self-awareness; it also encourages a better physical appearance. Yes – we are not perfect and when we look in the mirror we notice those imperfections. What we fail to notice are the great things about ourselves. Inner beauty exudes from a person who is confident. Coming back from spring breaking with the kiddos, I am even more ready for spring! The weather isn't completely cooperating - but my closet keeps me hopeful!

Fashion trends don't quite die - they just re-invent themselves. Mostly because we don't change our core - we just adjust our eye! Some trends have transformed into something that makes us forget how it originated and even then we take what we want from each trend to make it our own.

Flair is all about self-expression! This summer, take a look at your old digs and find that dress or pair of shorts that you once loved to rock... and you might be surprised!

Flairicious Spring loves:

- HOT PINK - yes I said it! Not neon pink - hot pink! It not only compliments neutrals, it playes nicely with equally bright colors like green, indigo, electric blue and orange. The key to not looking like a clown when assembling your ensemble - keep the silhouette straight and narrow with simple flowing fabrics and clean lines. If you're not quite ready for entire HOT PINK get up - try hot pink lipstick or lipgloss.

Thandi Newton

- CHARTREUSE - a hue that isn't always thought about but makes a mark. It too plays nicely with neutrals. The deeper the florescent, the better it looks on lighter skin tones and vice versa - the brighter the florescent, the better it looks on darker skin tones. If you're not sure - try a handbag or bracelet in this bright hue and you won't be disappointed.

- ESPADRILLES - Espadrilles are hot this summer in all colors - bright and bold or neutral and gold. Either way you slice it - these sandals are a must have in every flairicious girl's closet.

- ELECTRIC BLUE - out-of-space, exciting and bold. Electric blue is one of those colors that also plays well with neutrals, as well as hot pink, orange, chartreuse and green. Even if you don't find that perfect electrifying dress, definitely be sure to have a handbag or sandal in this great color!

The Skinny on Jeans Part 2 - the KICK

SO - I've wondered ... I've pondered... I've searched and searched for the answer.. why oh why are our boys wearing skinny jeans?

There is one thing to wear slim fit or tailored jeans - in fact - that admittedly is my preference for a flairicous male. I get that gone are the baggy jeans days - the days when the most sexiest look on a male was the way the pant leg fell on his AF1 or Jordans. I am happy to have those many memories - and still reminisce how great that look was on my BK males. However, I embrace the ever constant change in fashion and while I really really like that look - I have come to terms with the tailored more tapered pant leg - its neater, more polished and won't scrape the ground when he swagg'rs into the room.

But what I couldn't embrace - because quite frankly I couldn't understand - was the skinny jean so tight that it could barely fit on not only the waist but also the boys thighs. What sense did that make? So - because I am no longer as young as I used to be (don't get me wrong - I am not old either :-)) - I reached out to the younger generation for them to shed some light. And guess what I've discovered - I am so very happy to share with my followers - that the boys are not only absolutely hating the baggy jean look and fit - but that they so enjoy the skinny jean look because they get to show off their kicks - YES - that is right - boys haven't changed - the kick is still pivotal to the outfit and that is what they are showcasing - the KICK! the KICK! the KICK! Shout out to the male after school students of Central High School in PG county who attended Flair's Looking the Grade program - thank you for providing your insight.

Having said that - I admire the continuance of showcasing the KICK - and have to deliberate on how best to do that in a more slim fitted jean. BUT I cannot go against my very flairicious gut that the skinny jean is not for boys. I will be back with a more flairicous solution to showing off the KICK.

Celebrities Celebrating!

What a wonderful past few weeks in fashion. I've been taking in all the excitement and have neglected to write about all the wonderful sensory stimulation I've experienced bringing in March!

First, American Idol starts back up with J-Lo and S.Tyler doing their thing - I absolutely loved S. Tyler's lipstick button down shirt not to mention his accessory sense (hair pieces, long earrings - I love to see him dressed!). Hands down J-Lo is a fashion icon in her own right and I love how she puts an ensemble together, including how she adds her hairstyles as an accessory (I don't know anyone else besides Beyonce who can completely change her look day to day).

Second, the 68th Annual Golden Globes aired and the fashions were spectacular. From Angelina and Brad to Michael and Catherine - singles and couples walked the red carpets with stunning reds, greens and golds. Top 5 Flair favorites - Carrie Underwood, Heidi Klum, Michael and Catherine, Olivia Wilde and Johnny Depp:

Lastly, the 83rd Annual Academy Awards aired and fashions were breathtaking. Natalie and Halle were Flair favorites, amongst many others. Top 5 Flair Favorites (and this was hard!) - Jennifer Hudson, Halle Berry, Natalie Portman, Jennifer Lopez, and Gwenyth - sorry guys - you looked great - just didn't make the cut :-(

Whew... I thought I was in overload. There were a few mishaps that walked the red carpet - but since I am not one to point out the negatives and focus on the positives, I won't go to far down this lane. BUT for sake of example - as much as I enjoy seeing her walk the red carpet - this is one of those moments that you get mad at her girlfriend for not telling her the truth (sorry Halle :-()

Orange you Glad...

On the look out - Flair is all about its Vitamin C - Orange that is... for spring 2011. The Spring 2011 Fashion Re-dux has taken on orange.

I remember the last orange thing I owned was my orange Karl Kani jean pants set in high school with my orange travel fox - you couldn't tell me I wasn't doin' it! And I even had orange Hammer pants as well. Orange was definitely the it color when I was in high school (and don't ask me my age - it was in the 90's when I was in high school - so there is your hint :-).

I am so excited to see such vibrancy coming back in this day and age. And while I don't regret donating my Karl Kani set - I smile as I look back at how flairicious I felt wearing that set (maybe I can find a picture somewhere and post it). This week's tip - get a little Vitamin C ladies and gents... its good for you!

NYC Fashion Week - Fall/Winter 2011 Peak

Wanna know a secret? I've yet to attend a NYC fashion week event. Yes - I am wholeheartedly a Brooklynite - BUT in all the years of proudly wearing that badge - I've yet to get "in" on the action when fashion week thrills us in Manhattan. I would love the experience some day - but for now I continue to be wowed by catching the shows on the internet or on an off channel on TV - just as giddy and happy as if I were there.

You are probably asking yourself - Fall 2011? Well, the fashion world is always a season ahead of itself. Spring/Summer 2011 trends came out in the Fall of 2010 and now designers are showcasing their Fall 2011 frocks. Don't worry - you can still have a flaircious spring... but because you are flairicious - you are fashion forward and can multi-task your closet at any moment.

This week's tip - work with what you got! Asymmetrical lines, legs, color mixes and sheen are taking over for Fall 2011. As fashion continues to evolve, some things remain the same. Fall is about the re-dux - that is with everyone watching their pocket books even more carefully with this uncertain economy - designers not only understand but are bringing back trends that may still be in our closets (the black body suit is back ladies - yes it is - remarkable!). So - as you do your closet season change over - hold on to your favorites - you will be able to use them this fall. Wardrobe assessments are key - make sure you edit carefully and flairiciously.

5-4-3-2..... SPRING!

Can you smell the flowers budding in the air? Close your eyes real tight and concentrate :-)

I am so excited about spring 2011. So many colors - which isn't as surprising BUT its the feel and flow of the fabrics that make me excited. Talk about easy, breezy... spring is about light, airy and fun layers - loose and fitting all in one. Symmetry is different - straight lines are slanted and it may take a minute figuring out how to put on the one-piece Marc Jacobs jumpsuit you copped from Saks but with a little help from yours truly, you will not only look forward to pairing it with your favorite flat and bag, you will feel great in it.

Long or short, dresses are a definite for flaricious women. Pink, lavender and pale blue continue to raid a man's closet (won't call you flairicious - just going to call you HOT!). Low and heeled Gladiators are back - just embellished with flowers and appliques to "decorate" your feet. Skinny Jeans are here to stay - for women - we have choices of white, khaki, cropped or long - no more boots but paired with a gladiator, ankle strapped flat or peep-toe pump is quite flaricious.

Fashion Week NYC has passed and Fashion Week DC is in a few weeks - I am so very excited to see the local designers put their best on the runway. Stay tuned...

Spare Me the Embarrassment

Corporate America office dress etiquette is like an old man - stuck in its ways (no offense). It is not always welcomed to innovation - open toed shoes, tattoos, dreadlocks, braided hair, red lipstick, micro-mini skirts - all of which have fought (and some continue to fight) to become part of the Corporate America uniform. For those of you who work in an office know exactly what I am referring to.  And guess what - we all suck it up and go with it.

I am not opposed to the occasional try out - blue jeans, white button down shirt and black blazer on casual Fridays is ok in my book and seems to have passed in CA's book as well. Monday through Friday, however, the uniform is pretty much a variation of:  for men a suit and tie, slacks and button down shirt, dress pants and blazer or any combination thereof and for woman a pant/skirt suit and blouse, dress pants with blouse or sweater, skirt with blouse or sweater all complimented by a blazer.  Over the years, additions such as braided hair, updo's, sleeveless tops, V-neck sweaters/tops, no stockings, open toed shoes and sandals, have enhanced the corporate uniform but not without a fight. Each fashion trend has tried to infiltrate the CA dress code - and I can say that an aspect of every fashion trend has succeeded (the mid-length maxi dress with a light sweater works great in the summer).  And every now and again I see an unintentional faux pas that gets more attention than your 60 hour work week. Unfortunately - although you see these folks all day every day - what you wear to the office matters and is definitely noticed.

So - to spare you the embarrassment - this winter the skirts have gotten shorter as well as the sweater dresses - NEVER go shorter than the middle of your thigh (no matter how short or tall you are) and ALWAYS ALWAYS wear skirts/dresses that stop an inch above the knee with opaque stockings (not the design tights that we love to wear on the weekends).

I find that every office is different and may be a bit more lenient or strict in dress code. One thing is for sure - there is a dress code - and that code has minimum standards. Lets be mindful of the standard and incorporate your style within those standards.  We all want to be noticed for who we are not what we are wearing - and when we are noticed for what we are wearing - we must be flaircious!

Snow White

Chanel Fall 2010 Collection

Remarkably, Brooklyn is snowed in! And before embarking on the never ending shoveling, I took a moment to take in how pretty snow is.... how so very bright it is.... realizing there is no white quite like the pillowy fluffy texture of snow white. In the fashion world we have the classic winter white.

This season, winter white is embellished with furs or gold sequins, paired with thigh high boots with fur and tassels. Winter white is not as bright as summer white - it's softer. Incorporating winter white in your closet must be done with care. There isn't an abundance of winter white pieces out there this season - must haves include sweater, tights, hat, a wide belt, suit jacket, wool slacks, sweater dress - and the one piece that you may find and should definitely avoid are winter white leggings (or any white legging for that matter!). You can mix and match these few pieces with what you already have in your closet making a great addition to your wardrobe.

Winter Fingers and Toes

Manicures and Pedicures are not reserved for the summer when our fingers and toes are on display… the true path to nice hands and feet is the care you give them when they are at rest – at night and especially during the winter when they are covered up. Mani’s and Pedi’s are not reserved for just women – men are not only welcomed at most salons (special mani’s and pedi’s on the price list at many salons), men are increasingly getting more in tune with taking care of their bodies, including manicured hands and feet (YOU GO BOY!)

Picking the Salon is like choosing a hair stylist/barber. You should pay careful attention to cleanliness, professionalism and products. “Pampering” Mani’s and Pedi’s at Day Salons run between $40-$60 and should include hot towels, cuticle moisturizing products, mineral salts, timed procedures (at least 30 minutes for manicures and at least 50 minutes for pedicures) and paraffin treatments. Appointments are necessary for Salons. Flair favorites include Nusta Spa on L Street and Relache Spa at the Gaylord Hotel on the National Harbor. Regular Mani’s and Pedi’s at Nail Shops run between $25-$45 and include soaking and can be done on a walk in basis. These shops are a dime a dozen. Flair favorites include Royal Nails in Pentagon City (they also do great on the eyebrows). Regardless of the type of place, if you don’t have a referral, I highly recommend making a personal visit to the place you are thinking to use on a day that you don’t expect to make the appointment. Drop in – check out the digs – ask for a price list – see how they interact with you – and if you are impressed – make an appointment.

On a budget? At home service is perfectly fine (sometimes even better for timing, convenience and care). There are many products available at your local CVS or Walgreens that give you a similar experience. Pumice stones, Burt Bees hand and foot lotions, cuticle nippers, nail fix polish, the list goes on and on… Start by taking a hot bath and after you’ve pampered your skin, spend an extra hour pampering your hands and feet. While in the tub, use the pumice stone to scrape away the dead skin on the bottoms of your feet and the palms of your hands (if applicable). Couples – this is also something that can be done together ;-)

Whether you’re doing it at home or at a salon, keep up the routine. Rotation for a mani should be 2 weeks and every 4 weeks for a pedi. There is no excuse for having crusty feet any time of the year!

With the holiday season upon us – gift certificates are great gifts – try one at a local salon for someone special.

Holiday Season Ahead... Home Parties

Gearing up for celebrating the holidays in style...

Office cocktail parties, community organization holiday parties, family get togethers - all warrant a certain sense of style and expression. You cannot wear the same dress/get up to all types of events - even the little black dress - cannot fit every occasion. This year is the year for over-the-knee boots showing off that portion of the leg between the knee and thigh (very sexy). This year is the year for purple mixed with cherry red, bronze mixed with military green and shiny prints (not sequins). This year is about movement, comfort and class - packaged with bold color combinations. High waists are still winners - high waisted belts, pants, pencil skirts -with embellished accessories and buckles.

While at home, don't loose style when focused on comfort. Cocktail parties are parties - regardless of where you are. And as the host - yes - you too must get dressed and set the mood for your party. My tip - get everything ready and stop about an hour to an hour and a half before guests are expected to arrive. Take a few minutes to relax (if you're anything like me - I want everything perfect so I rarely get to relax before hosting a party) and do whatever you need to get back into the mood of making your guests feel welcomed in your home. Take your time getting dressed - play your favorite song or watch your favorite music video (music always get you in the right mood and keeps you moving). Be sure to wear something that is comfortable, classy and doesn't require too much fussing over - after all -you are the host so you will be moving around quite a bit. Your makeup and hair should be as if you didn't work hard at it at all. Even if its just a few of your closest friends that you always see - a holiday party is special and is an excuse to get dressed up. If jeans and a white tee is your preference - you can always change when the party is over - using clean up as the excuse.

If attending a home party - be sure to ask what the dress code is. You don't want to arrive to someone else's party purposely out-doing the host (if you end up doing it - oh well - blame it on Flair :-) Be sure to wear something that is not only comfortable and appropriate, but also covering enough so that you are ready for any sort of furniture arrangements (low chairs, stools, couches, standing room only, etc.). Wear socks/stockings that are "show able" just in case the rule of the house is to remove your shoes. Accessorize your get up with a cocktail bag (no clunky big bag that you have to tote around all night) containing the Flair Kit - lipgloss, car/house keys, emergency $50, driver's license, major credit card, gum/mints and your emergency band aid (for the perkies). Be sure have a sweater/shall just in case the host/hostess likes a more chilly environment. Your choice of dress - that's what I am here for! Hit me up for a consultation.

A Flair Favorite - Dress for Success

Dedicating this to the wonderful women of Dress for Success. I am honored to have attended the 8th Anniversary Celebration Luncheon for the Dress for Success, Washington, D.C. Dress of Success has helped to empower over 8,000 disadvantaged women in the DC Metropolitan area since 2002. It was a pleasure to listen to the testimonies of the Professional Women's Group and meeting one of the women who is a living example of the great work Dress for Success has done. It was also a great pleasure to hear Stacie Turner, Real Housewives of DC, deliver her keynote address on Living an Extraordinary Life.

All the women (and men) in attendance were flairicious. While this was a middle-of-the-work-day luncheon and everyone came in their "work uniform" - the professionalism, poise and sisterhood that embodied all attendees was amazing. Black pant and skirt suits were worn by the majority - however, I did notice a few flairiciously clad women in purple dresses, pink and gray suits, floral prints, and colored pumps :-) And a few suited up men were in the midst with their own Flair.

Dress for Success is an international non-profit organization that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. TIME OUT - HUDDLE

7 weeks under the belt in a great 2010 season... new line up for Miami Heat... little league'rs are almost done with their season about to enter into playoffs... Cross country track season is nearing an end and indoor is about to start... Winter jackets are hanging by the door, knitted hats and scarfs are on the mantels and under armour is running $29.95 a piece youth sized!

Whether your running to get your little defensive tackle to his Saturday dawn game or running down Brightseat to catch the kick off at Fedex Field, there is no excuse for not being flairicous. GAME PLAN - Common sense is the driving force here - while being glamorous is nice, it has its place just not on the field. PLAYS - comfortable flat shoes (of course, my preference is UGG or a good Nine West tall low heeled boot) with skinny or boot cut jeans and a very comfortable thermal stretch top. Rep your team in a jersey and jeans (or leggings for the ladies). Simple, Smart and Sexy is what this sports season is all about.

No matter how you slice it - Fall on the East Coast is here... and its beautiful. The colors - rust, reds, browns, creams, golds, bronze, grays, blues, greens and even new colors like griege (gray + beige) - earthy tones that inspire creativity. While designers are already showcasing their spring 2011 fashions, I encourage you to stop and smell the cedar... sip some hot cocoa and cuddle up next to something (or someone) warm...

The little black dress' alter ego - the little white dress has earned its keep and reward for becoming a staple in every woman's closet. As fashion moves forward, each trend picks up its classics and white - while its traditionally the color of the bride - has definitely made its mark with the up rise of the white short-short, white t, white jean, white pump, and ultimately the little white dress.

Not for every occasion - it is welcomed both day and night. Unless specifically instructed - never to be worn at a wedding, it can be worn at the office, at an after-work party or on date night.

The little black dress is seductive, sultry and mysterious while its alter ego is open, fresh and bright. Best worn bubbly or draped, the little white dress screams fantastic chaos. Its almost as if it will get dirty if it plays too hard - yet it is made expected to play! Caution - will not disguise anything - stay away from tight and form fitting. It needs to be flattering yet airy, not too spruced up but not dummed down. Accessories need to be simple and classic - and with color - turquoise, purples, yellows, royal blues, electric greens - all go good with a little white dress. The shoe is pretty tricky - because you don't want to look like a snow princess or a yeti in the middle of June. The shoe needs to be strappy (not a mule) and of a different color (if you have nothing else - neutral works perfect). And if worn toward the end of the season, a nice pair of boots also pair well with a little white dress (try a different material such as suede or sateen). Depending on the style, a nice ballerina flat or very nice flat sandal works well. The coming-out-party has to be carefully planned . While she is the newcomer and has entered the room sheepishly yet pronounced - she is definitely here to stay.

Graduating Class of 2010

Its graduation season and I am so excited. Teenagers entering young adulthood are coming to the show - all dressed up and ready to face the world. Caps and gowns everywhere, diplomas, smiling faces, proud parents, hoots and hollas from the stands, singing, instrumentals, speeches and lots and lots of tears. Well, as excited as I am for the graduating class of 2010, we must keep in mind graduation ceremony tact.

All too many times have I seen the "where are they going?" questionable ensemble on some of my fellow audience members. We have to remember that the graduation ceremony is just that - a time to watch our blossoming children move their tassel from the right side to the left (or is it the other way around? - its been a while). We are not there to distract the focus from them to unnecessary exposure of their lineage. I know I sound harsh - and I will apologize if this comes across as offensive. I think its time to really come to terms with how we portray ourselves and how we reflect one of the greatest things we can do - raise children. So - lets do our children/cousins/nieces/nephews/grandchildren proud and show up representing the goodness that's in them and in us. Cover up and fly right.

The flairicious graduation attire is dress casual - NOT beach-wear, bbqing-in-the-park-wear, just-got-out-of-bed-wear, chillin-on-the-stoop-wear, going-out-on-a-Saturday-night-wear, love-in-this-club-wear. Because graduation season is typically warm weather - for my women, dress casual is spring dresses with a dressy flat or strappy sandal. For my men, dress casual is a pair of slacks and a linen short sleeved button down. And if you are not sure, dress up instead of down. I love love love jeans. However, I would not suggest wearing a pair of jeans to a graduation ceremony (for the guys - you might be able to get away with a pair of dark dark blue and a very nice button down but that's pushing it). Flip flops are also a no-no. If you wear a flat - be sure that it has a strap around the ankle so that we are not hearing you walk up and down the stairs while the Class President is giving his/her address.

For the graduates - you are lucky because you get to cover up your outfit with a gown. However, don't get carried away - there are allot of things that will happen after your ceremony that you'd wish you were dressed appropriately for - and we can still see the bottoms of your legs and feet! Back in my day - we really got decked out for graduation. I know times have changed (not that much - I am not that old) but we are much more casual at graduations now. Well - lets not get crazy - graduates - you still need to represent yourself and your family flairiciously - that is with comfort and style.

Party Feet

And yes, we are all guilty of it – men and women alike. Choosing the wrong shoe for a night out on the town can ruin an entire evening. Hurt, soar feet distort anyone’s ability to enjoy him/her self. Nevertheless, we women find ourselves stuck in the rut of choosing between a very nice shoe and comfort. Many many shoes are just plain uncomfortable. And if we are expected to not only look hot in them, but also to walk and stand around, looking like we are having a great time as our feet are burning and aching, we have to start at the beginning.

I am a shoe fanatic. There are many pairs of shoes in my repertoire that I refuse to wear on a night out with my sweetheart. We all have that pair of shoes that can only be worn getting in and out of the car, walking to and from the restaurant and getting back home (or solely at home :-)) And I am not saying don't buy the pair - I am saying we need to ensure we are always at our best when the shoe is in execution!

Starting at the beginning is while you are in your closet when you are getting ready. The selection process is an art in and of itself. So – you’ve made your selection (you must pick at least 3 finalists based on style and color). Then ask yourself (self-interrogation) questions such as – Do my toes all fit on the base? Will the strap start to dig in my ankle? Will the thong begin to irritate the space between my big and second toe? Is the fabric going to rub my heel and create a blister? And ultimately – can I walk and stand for at least 3 hours in this shoe? Its only after those deliberations can you pick the right pair.

To help you along, there are products that can easily move from shoe to shoe – our dear Dr. Scholls has made many products for many types of shoes that are clear and invisible in most shoes. You have the heel pad, the foot pad, the thong pad, and you can be “jellin” every day all day if you wanted to.

My dear readers – there is no excuse for a woman to take off her shoes while she is out on the town. There is a time and place for bare feet - in a night club is not one of them. Unless you are enter an establishment that requires such or you visit a friend with that house rule – you are never too drunk or tired to take of your shoes and start walking barefoot in the street after partying at night. It just isn’t flairicious. Don’t get me wrong – your feet will hurt at the end of the night regardless – just make sure you can hold out till at least you get to your car. I suggest that you carry a pair of flip flops in your bag (by the way – there are flats out there that fold up like a wallet to fit in your bag – check out http://www.redfootrevolution.com/). If you feel that your feet will not last - give yourself some relief by sitting and very discreetly take off your shoe and chill a while. I repeat – under no circumstances should you take off your shoes and walk the streets near or at the nightclub, restaurant, lounge or wherever you are- no one in public should see you barefoot and carrying your shoes as you waddle to your car or other destination.

Tribute to Dr. Dorothy Height

One of the all time favorite African American women - Dr. Dorothy Height. Always with style and class, Dr. Height exemplified an image of confidence and flair! Most known for her coordinated ensembles, with a matching hat, Dr. Height never had a bad style day! I am very proud to have served for the National Council for Negro Women's DC Millennium Section for many years and had the very fortunate opportunity to not only meet her, but to also talk with her. Her life and legacy lives on... my hat goes off to you Dr. Height.

Shecky's Girls Night Out 2010

What a great experience! Shecky's 2010 in Washington, D.C. was more than I expected.

I was impressed with the ease getting in and courteous helpers throughout DAR Consititution Hall. Arriving early really paid off - I was able to walk around to see each booth 3 times before the crowd started to really consume the walkways.

Spring Accessories are in full swing. Shecky's complimented the season providing vendors with an array of creative and unique pieces from rustic medieval times necklaces to elastic/expandable belts that will never cause a fit problem for you. I loved with the flats that folded in half such that you can put them in your purse to save your feet and still look cute wearing them. And of course, loved loved the special drinks and food bites. Shecky's Girls Night Out is definitely a cool way to spend a few hours after work! What a concept.

Spring - Dressed !

Long or short, spring inspires beautiful dresses. I've yet to witness a spring dress that went out of style. So - ladies - get your toes done, polish the skin with a light lotion, pull out your arsenal and get out there.

Spring dresses come in great fabrics with florals, prints, abstract lines, bright colors, ruffles, spaghetti straps, cap sleeved - so much to choose from - and so much fun choosing.  Very simple - print can't be too busy and must compliment to your skin tone. It would be pretty hard to go wrong with a spring dress.

Versatility is also important. Pair your spring dress with a neutral jacket for the office and take it off for the after 5pm get up on the Georgetown Waterfront. For a more casual day, flip flops or white kicks are great (and the gladiator has not yet left the building - they are back this season).  For a more dressy event, wedges are the perfect compliment.

Best thing is that they run the gammit on prices - so everyone can afford a spring dress.   Yellow, bright rich purple and blue are the colors of this season... Flairicious Spring - Lovely!

Yes - I too want to believe I am forever young. Yet as I get older, my body seems not to be able to resist the temptation to get older and change. She's not fitting into what she used to and she's not feeling the same in what she used to adorn herself with. Many of us struggle with accepting our bodies as they are at every phase of our lives. We age - that's the reality but that doesn't mean we can't express our inner spirit accordingly. Wanna know a secret? You can feel forever young and still portray your age. Have you ever heard the expression "Act your age, not your shoe size?" To Do it with Flair you "Dress your age and know your real shoe size."

For 2010, I challenge you to accept your body type, feel good about how you look and express your inner youth in a classic, fun and flairicious way.

I know we are looking foward to the spring/summer. And we are looking at our wallets trying to make sense of how to get what we need and want. Trust me - as a single mother - I get it. Nonetheless, we should continue to feel good in what we are wearing and now is a great time to rack up on last season's goodies. If there is a silver lining in these hard economic times, it is that retail stores are lowering their prices more quickly and the sales are dramatically wonderful. Right now, the Filene's and Marshalls' of the world are lowering prices at as much as 70% discount. And even your favorite boutique is drastically cutting their prices for last season's goodies. Yes - finding your size may be a challenge - however, it is definitely worth the check. Grab your shopping bag, a good cup of iced pomegranite raspberry tea, put on your leggings and low heeled boots and get out there. You may even get lucky and get a few deals on spring pieces. The Jumpsuit

As we look forward to spring - updo's, toes and flirty dresses - we should not neglect the jumpsuit. It came on the scene last summer and seemed to have made such an impression because its back - and even better.

The jumpsuit is simple - one zipper - one piece - pull it on and you are dressed. What you have to be mindful of is the fit. Jumpsuits are tailored to appear to be two pieces (sometimes three if there is a vest attached to the top) and that may not fit your body type. If you are smaller at the top and larger at the bottom - you want lighter, flexible fabrics that fall properly. If you are the opposite - a more structured fabric is suited for you so that it stays put in the right places. Regardless of your body type - look at the fine print - pockets on the thighs draw attention to your midsection, pockets in the back draw attention to your backside, sleeves draw attention to your arms and neck, no sleeves draw attention to your boobies and neck, and ballooned, flared or tight fitted legs draw attention to everything south of the belly button. A belt may or may not be your friend. What's key - is that you must try it on and make sure before you buy it. Be open minded and have fun with the mini fashion show you give yourself in the dressing room.

Jimmy Choo meets Ugg

So the word is out that Ugg Australia’s sheepskin boots and Jimmy Choo are gearing up to launch a limited edition, five-piece collection in October 2010 under a collabo label.... Hmmm - interesting.

Jimmy Choo's have a long standing reputation - from the lips of most women - they are must have to any flairicious wardrobe. If the rumors be true - the collection will use the base of the Ugg shoe with design detail contributions from Jimmy Choo. Ok - what would that really mean? And most importantly - what will that really look like?

I love a Jimmy Choo - and I love an Ugg - but for different reasons and moods. I wouldn't run to Whole Foods in a Jimmy Choo - but I would in an Ugg. Both shoes give a completely different sense of Flair and I am very eager and curious to see how the two will send out 5 distinct shoes that will make us believe they are signature Jimmy and Ugg. I forecast a flair favorite in the fall.... you heard it here first!

Flair Inspiration

Inspirations can be drawn from many different sources - the way you feel, the way you want to feel, the way someone else makes you feel, the way your surroundings make you feel. Sometimes - its just that thing that comes over you - call it the inner voice or spirit - bottom line - inspirations are your own personal motivational soldiers marching to your heart song and keeping you on track.

I was hoping for some inspiration while watching the 2010 Grammy's the other night - I left 3.5 hours later in the same place I began. Don't get me wrong - Maxwell looked great as did Pink. Beyonce was flawless as usual and Rihana looked like a piece in a museum. Mary, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Celine Dion all get a Flair stamp of approval. While I do not deny that many of the artists who performed, presented and watched from the audience had flair, I was not dazzled by anyone. I did notice one little accessory that I believe will become a flair favorite - medallion style drop earrings.

So - while I sit in my comfortable family room searching for that inspiration to give you a Do it with Flair style tip - today is about finding your inspiration within your self. Your image is not about getting attention bikini boy trying out for American Idol - it about personal style and expression.

Jegging.... huh?

While I always find a way to put a positive spin on a fashion style - I must say that the Jegging (Jean Legging) is not something I can put a FLAIR stamp on. While it may be picking up some traction, it is not walking down the runway.

SO - let's address leggings before we add the jean illusion of a jegging. Legging were once only appropriate in the gym (hearing your aeorbic classes calling you eh?). Women who wore leggings outside the gym were given a second look (as if they were only supposed to come out at night) and now-a-days leggings have transcended into something arguably fashionable. Leggings - solid colored or textured - are pieces to your wardrobe that you should have a few of just in case the feeling moves you to put on a long tunic or sweater and boot (high, low or australian). You can purchase them for as little as $10 or as much as $150. They are mainly machine washable and require low maintenance if you want to retain the shape and color (faded out black bee-balled leggings are so not flairicious). They form the body so be ware of too much exposure (ladies - classy is sexy). We can pretty much get to a place where the legging are accepted as weekend wear (and for some occassional club wear) but never the work day office or social pick.

The jean - well - it definitely has its place in high fashion and it is definitely a FLAIR favorite (see previous blog on the skinny - more to come in Do it with Flair's Spring Preview March 2010).

BUT - never the two shall twine. A jean that is a legging or a legging that is a jean doesn't even type right. Like Simon said this season 9 "its like watching a cat bark - it just shouldn't happen"

Leopards, Zebras and Snakes, Oh My

Want to express your inner animal? There is a time and place for mostly everything - even animal prints. From the lining of that solid colored pencil skirt to the back heel of a pump, animal prints can be very flairicious. Try a full fledge animal print skirt paired with a solid black top, belt, stocking and ankle boot. Or kimono with black leggings and tall black boot. Even a long dress in the spring (zebra seems to be best worn in the spring :-). I love to throw in splashes of red with the mysticism of the jungle - red bracelet or headband would do the trick. If wearing your inner animal isn't your thing, treat animal prints as an accessory (handbag, belt or jewelry) when coupled with a solid black dress or pants suit.

Have fun with it - just don't go overboard ! The classic flair appeal is the oh-so-subtle pick-a-boo surprise of exotic. Showing your inner animal as a true test of your flair.

Baa Baa Black Sheep - Have you any wool?

For some of us, we are in the full swing of winter... with Jack Frost nipping at our noses. Winter is a great time to dazzle in the many rich, thick and comforting fabrics that keep us reminiscent of hot cocoa near a roaring fire. Being a winter baby from Brooklyn, layers were and remain vital to survival during the cold winter months, with thin, breathable fabrics closest to the skin and heavier, thicker fabrics as the outer shell. A particular fabric that has stood the test of time is wool!

Wool - sometimes itchy but very versatile. Not only can you find wool coats, you can also find wool hats, scarves, and even socks. Wool blends are more comfortable and serve the same function. Wool is heavy and virtually wrinkle free. The wool peacoat is a FLAIR favorite - and can be matched to any style and taste. From the solid camel colored to a houndstooth pattern - it is a must have to any closet. It is that finishing touch to your office get up or that after-work boondogle. Men, women and children alike can all benefit from a wool peacoat. It makes a statement that you are not only classic in style but practical in action.

For this season, women's wool coats have been adorned with fur collars and wide belts on the outside of the coat (giving it that extra shaping) while the selection of men's wool coats have been infiltrated with dark grey and zippers (instead of the traditional big buttons). Women's colors have expanded to the family of purple (while gray and cream remain a top favorite). A long wool coat is best on someone over 5'7" while a 3/4 length trench is not height discriminatory. Shaping is very important - you want the coat to fit you and all the layers you plan to put underneath.

Your coat, as with any other functional additive, does not need to match your outfit, it needs to compliment your style (the way you walk, the way you present yourself, your auora).

And last but definitely not least – What shall I do with my hair?

Hair styling is an art in and of itself. As most women and men have experienced – our hair has a mind of its own. So - we've figured out the outfit - now all that's left is “what shall I do with my hair?” Hair styles are wonderfully versatile, creating its own persona – making or breaking the rest of the outfit.  Yes- Hair has its own Flair.

While I have so many gems in my Flair Hair treasure chest – today’s tip is dedicated to the Dominican Hair Stylist. They are in every urban area – charging up to $40 for a wash and set (translation – wash, condition, roller set, and blowdry). They do not require appointments and are most cost-effective in these times. The key to choosing your spot is WORD OF MOUTH! Please ladies – please do not just walk up in some spot and try it unless you’ve either checked it out prior (some are on the internet) or someone you know has gotten their hair done there. It may sound simple – what could go wrong with a wash and set? Well, ladies – as precious as our hair is to us, a bad wash and set could result in hair loss. And just to save you some time, a few good spots in the DMV are: Claudia’s Hair Salon in Silver Spring, Giovanni’s in Adams Morgan, and Judy’s in Adam Morgan. Feel free to leave your spot in the comments section even if you're not in teh DMV - I have a spot back home in the BK too in Canarsie in case you're looking.  I will keep a reference list for us just in case of an emergency :-).

A few suggestions - I strongly recommend bringing your own shampoo and conditioner – Claudia’s has Alter Ego and other nice products – but as much as I heart Sylvia at Giovanni’s, I always bring my own shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in to her when I go see her. Your stylist should ask you “how do you want it – straight or with body” – which determines the size of the rollers she puts in your hair. After you come from under the hair dryer and get back into your stylist's chair to get the rollers taken out, that’s the critical moment that you have to tell her to either blow you out completely or just your roots. You want to ration the heat exposure.

Getting your hair done at a Dominican salon is good for your everyday-ready-to-go style leaving you with flexibility to manage your week.  They are convenient and cost effective (for special occassions - I have other salons to recommend).  Your hair comes out straight, airy and care-free – and should last up to a week easy so long as you wrap it or pin curl it at night (don’t forget your light oil/moisturizer to keep the frizz down to a minimum – especially in the winter months when our hair tends to get drier).  These salons are good for ladies with natural or relaxed hair - just be careful of the products used (as I said, you really shoud bring your own products that you know work for your hair).

The key to wearing them is without socks – they contour to your feet and keep you the warmest with direct contact (trust me – they don’t begin to stink after time – they breathe better than any sneaker you will spend your money on). There are 3 lengths – short, tall and ultra tall – you’d want to start with tall so that you can roll them down to change the look. There are a variety of colors – I personally go for the most unique but if you want to stay safe – go for brown or black – not the lighter colors because they are harder to clean if they get dirty.

Label-less

I was at the ‘Skins game against the Chiefs this past Sunday (I know – say nothing – my blog message this week will not be a reminder of wacky football Sunday) and was trying to keep my positive energy directed to the field and noticed a man wearing a no name ‘Skins jersey a few rows in front of me. The people in my area also noticed – and while we cracked a few jokes about it – he caught my attention so much so I had to talk to him when the game was over. And even though he never quite answered my question of what happened to his jersey - I did get his message – he made his own statement without having to endorse a particular player.

Some of us have been sucked into this idea of labels – wearing designer names on our bodies that's believed to somehow say something about us to whomever is paying attention - with only a touch of individuality. As I’ve grown wiser over the years I’ve grown an appreciation for quality – with a tendency toward certain labels because that designer made what I needed to fit my body and style. Don’t get me wrong – I’ve have a fond appreciation for designers of fine clothing, accessories and shoes. But what I also gained was a better sense of self – that self who likes these things because I do – not because somehow they define who I am. I will be just as much in Target getting my son his summer play kicks or some work out clothes as I am in Pink November for that “freak’em dress.” For me – my self-image is about originality, creativity, common sense and class (summed up - Flair!). It’s about the packaging that best expresses your personality – with only one label – YOU.

So thank you no-name jersey guy at the “Field Goal Shoot Out with the Kansas City Chiefs” for reminding us all that we are our own label.

A real quick and dirty FLAIR style:

F: Flairiciously fit - If it doesn’t fit – PUT IT BACK! Let’s get away from too tight and too snug- no matter how confident you feel - let’s make sure our image reflects the better side of our senses.

L: Lip-gloss – so many choices, only one pucker. Let’s keep the chapped under wraps and find a great lip-gloss that not only accentuates your pucker, but also lasts without the white caked-up spit line that is so not attractive. MAC is my all time favorite – but you have choices such as SMASHBOX found at ULTA, L’Oreal Paris (CVS) and Carol’s Daughter (watch the ingredients – make sure you are not allergic). If all else fails – Vaseline is your friend.

A: Accessorize – Accessories are the extra pinch of spice that every meal gets to take it up a notch. Bright colored (cherry red, purple, turquoise) chunky jewelry is in this season… metallic and bronze rings, bracelets and chains are replacing the traditional gold and silver pieces (of course, you need one good set of white gold or silver). Accessories extend to scarves, hats, belts, sweaters, boleros, gloves, pendants, clutches, handbags, wristlets … all fun stuff you can use to add flair to your outfit. Check out Armani Exchange, French Connection, Express, Guess, or any of your favorite boutiques around town for some hot finds.

I: The “eyes” have it – Bold eyes are in this season. Perfectly arched eyebrows over a perfectly lined eye lid with bronze or metallic eye shadow is flairiciously show stopping. No need to go overboard with very expensive eye make up – your local retailer CVS, Target, or Eckerd has what you need to create the perfect eye for this season. If you are not eye-savvy, try a free consult at one of the make-up counters of Macy’s or Nordstrom’s. For the office – tone it down a bit and use a lighter bronze eye shadow, dark brown mascara and eye liner. For after work – you have many options and the key is bold, dark and shaped. For those of you who are more adventurous – you can get your lashes amplified by an expert such as MAC for temporary eyelashes, Fantasy Nails in Takoma/Langley Park for add-on eyelashes and Modern Nails in Pentagon City for permanent lashes.

R: Relax, Relate, Release – Relaxed tops, slouchy sweaters, chunky jewelry, leggings, UGGS, low heeled/wedge boots, plaid flats, sloppy ponytails, loose curls, crochet hats, long scarves, black leather bombers, bold colors, natural make up … Relate to your mood, personality and creativity… Released to the world with Flair!

The Skinny on Jeans Part 1

Fall is definitely in the air. As we begin to dig out our cooler-weather threads and retire our summer frocks, let’s be mindful of what to keep handy – and of course, I am talking about a definite must have – the jean.

Jeans have come a very long way from being blue dungarees. Needless to say, jeans have transcended the fashion scene and it’s not just the look but the feel of the jean that makes the pair. Designers have gone as far as naming the jean to describe how the designer wants you to feel in them – from the “Boyfriend” jean to the “Sexy Low Rise”, no matter the designer, there is a jean line in the mix.

Today’s jean tip is to the skinny jean – the one that has gained much popularlarity - yet are so very temperamental. The skinny jean is not for everyone. Yes – we can try to delude our own self image to believe that everyone can fit into a skinny jean but I am here to tell you that we have to be very careful of the image we want to portray when we insist on wearing things that just plain don’t flatter our personalities.

And before I go on – for the sake of stating the obvious – GENTLEMEN – the skinny jean is not for you. Please run into your closets right now – no matter how lean and trim you are – and take them out – don’t give them away – burn them. Its cool – I am all for trying something once (within reason) but we gotta let this one go guys. Replace them with a very nice Calvin Klein or Levi 550 tailored jean that gives him the classic yet flairicious look. Be the trailblazer and get rid of this notion that a man has a skinny jean – get back to the basics – a nice flattering loose fit or tailored jean. For this fall, rock the tailored look – and yes – men – you look great in a tailored jean with a white button down and blazer. So fresh and SO very clean!

Ladies – the skinny jean is meant for that body type – I am not talking the pear or box, I am talking that one. It’s the one that when you put on the skinny jean, it gets over your thighs without cutting off your circulation. It’s the one that once you get it over the thighs and when it rests on your bum the waist of the jean doesn’t sit 2 feet away from the small of your back. It’s the one that when you button them up and they sit on your bum properly, you can then proceed to sit down in your dressing room comfortably. You will know when you’ve gotten the right skinny jean. There are a variety of sizes and rinses with plenty of elastene. Start with a lower cost jean – Express or the Gap run between $40 and $100 depending on the style and sale day. Or if you already have a favorite designer, you can start there – I will tell ya though – it didn’t work for me – Seven for all Mankind skinny jeans do not fit my body – but you may have a different experience. Bring your patience and go before you have your lunch date with the girls. Once you find your fit, stick with it. Try your size and one size up – no worries –you’re not bigger you’re just getting wiser. If you are looking for a more distinguished designer – Lettie Gooch and 4NXC(on U Street) have pretty good selection of designer skinny jeans. Paired with a flattering top (fitting in the right places), sweater shawl (or leather bomber), chunky jewelry, and a heel – ah girl… can you say flairicious !

My Secret Vickies

Confidence is very alluring and extremely attractive - in both men and women. Image has everything to do with expressing that inner self in a way that displays not only class but confidence as well. What better way to boost that confidence level than to have a very appealing secret!

There is nothing like knowing you have some very secret vickies underneath your Arthur S. Levine 2 piece suit or low waisted Sevens and white tank... It invigorates and energizes the very umph in your step. There is something about being the only person who knows the precious treasures you keep :-) And that only the chosen will ever get close to taking a peak. From lace to that perfect pair of cotton or the "barely theres" to that very cheerful summery print with watermelons or butterflies... Whatever your mood, always give yourself that extra perk of confidence and sex appeal.

A few reminders - the bra strap display is soooo out with all the bra-inset tanks and invisible or convertible straps that are available nowadays.. Lets keep the straps hidden and the tops of our bottom secrets in place (beneath the waistline). Replace those pairs for the monthly visits with something that gives more energy. Remember - Its a good secret to have (Gentlemen - you will thank me later).

Fall is in the air... we are saying good bye to the summer of 2009... what better way to ease those soon-to-be winter blues but with a pair of new shoes....

The signature perfect red bottom... oh louie. Christian Louboutin that is... a french designer who has made his mark in my obsession with shoes like no other so far. Every girl must have at least one pair of his most sexy-off-the-wall-can't-get-enough masterpieces. They are made to flatter the woman's body exceptionally well. YES - pricey - but definitely worth it.

The black pumps can be worn to work - that is if you can stand walking in a high heel all day - and transfer to your evening activities perfectly. If not to work - definitely on that special occassion with your perfect little black dress.

Out the Box

Stepping out is something that requires thought and contemplation. You don't want to show up and make a bad first impression. Style has everything to do with what impression you make. Regardless of whether or not you are running to the Giant or picking up your child from school, you want to present yourself with some class and completeness. Your closet should include pieces that express the mood you're in - casual, quick, knock-em-dead, etc.

For your runs to the Giant or to pick up the kids - keep a really good sweatsuit - Gucci, Juicy Couture, Roc-a-Wear, Ed Hardy, or the Gap make very good two-piece sweatsuits (I am talking sweatpants and a zipper hoodie that you can rock with a white tank). Get a hoodie with some kind of emblem or design on it to make it flairicious! Top that off with a really crisp pair of white kicks (K-Swiss, low top AF1's) or a pair of black or gold Coach kicks (whichever is your mood). Keep your hair simple - either a sloppy ponytail for longer hair or combed back for shorter hair. Keep your jewelry simple - a watch, some silver hoops and a ring or bracelet - whichever you remember. A touch of lipgloss and neutral eye makeup will top you off just right.
